Art Curriculum

Our Art Curriculum

At Tintwistle CE Primary School, our art education is built on curiosity, exploration, and self-expression. We believe art is an open-ended journey of discovery, encouraging children to experiment with their ideas while investigating the visual and tactile world around them.

From Nursery, our aim is to spark a lifelong love for creativity. We encourage our youngest learners to investigate textures, shapes, and colours by interacting with their immediate environment and sharing their thoughts through early creative talk. Through immersive sensory play, outdoor learning, and storytelling, children naturally begin to notice different materials, artistic styles, and diverse cultures.

Our curriculum empowers all pupils to view themselves as artists, craft makers, and designers. We ensure that every child—regardless of their background, culture, or ability—is fully supported to discover their unique creative voice and appreciate the rich diversity of the art world.

As children progress through Tintwistle, they build a continuous framework of knowledge and capability. They develop a rich understanding of historical and contemporary artists, master practical techniques in drawing, painting, and sculpture, and refine their skills through further practice and exploration. By weaving art into the wider curriculum, we enrich our pupils' transferable skills while deeply nurturing their cultural, social, spiritual, and moral development.
