Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum

At Tintwistle Primary School, our curriculum is designed to be active, inclusive and child centred, ensuring every learner is seen, heard and valued. Rooted in the National Curriculum yet enriched far beyond it, our provision is fun, purposeful and cross curricular, enabling children to make meaningful links in their learning and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

We are proud of a curriculum that is reflective of our children and their community, drawing on local heritage, environment and culture to make learning truly relevant. Through our well-established Forest School pupils learn holistically developing, confidence and collaboration as they explore, question and connect with nature.

Our curriculum is driven by our Christian Values and aims to lay solid foundations for later learning, encouraging deeper thinking and fostering curiosity. We strive to be a school that is truly bothered: bothered about learning, bothered about children’s wellbeing, their future opportunities, and their ability to make a positive difference.

We are committed to integrating social and environmental awareness throughout our curriculum so that children become responsible, informed citizens. Opportunities for critical thinking and social action—such as local clean-up projects, water conservation efforts and community partnerships empower pupils to understand the impact they can have and to take pride in improving their world.

Above all, our curriculum is aspirational.  It supports every child to flourish academically, socially and emotionally, preparing them not only for the next stage of their education but for life as compassionate, confident individuals who are ready to shape the future.

Remote Learning

Tintwistle CofE (Aided) Primary School follows Department for Education (DfE) non-statutory guidance, which recommends remote education only as a last resort when in-person attendance is impossible due to site closures or short-term medical absences.

The school's framework for a Remote Learning  is structured around the standard DfE and primary school guidelines:

We aim to provide:

•Continuity of Education: Provide meaningful and high-quality remote work equivalent to core teaching time when face-to-face classes cannot take place.

• Swift Reintegration: Ensure remote learning acts as a temporary bridge back to normal classroom attendance rather than a permanent substitute.

• Inclusivity: Maintain statutory duties for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) pupils and support digital access for families.

The school will consider providing pupils with remote education on a case-by-case basis.

Work provided during periods of remote education will be high quality, meaningful, ambitious, and cover an appropriate range of subjects to enable pupils to keep on track with their education.

Where pupils have access to appropriate devices, remote education might include recorded and / or live direct teaching time, as well as time for pupils to complete tasks, reading, and assignments independently, depending on their age and stage of development.

If pupils with SEND are not able to attend school and require remote education, their teachers are best placed to know how their needs can most effectively be met to ensure they continue to access the curriculum. The school will put in place an appropriate curriculum, teaching and support that will enable the pupil to continue learning effectively.
