Our Christian Vision and Values

At Tintwistle Primary School, our Christian vision is at the heart of everything we do. We seek to create a loving, inclusive and nurturing community where every child is valued as a unique and precious individual, created in the image of God.

We want our children to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We encourage them to discover their gifts and talents, develop confidence in who they are, and grow into kind, compassionate and courageous individuals who make a positive difference to the world around them.

Our Christian values guide the way we live and learn together. Through love, respect, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, courage, honesty and perseverance, we help children understand the importance of caring for one another and treating everyone with dignity.

We believe that every child should feel that they belong, that their voice matters and that they have an important contribution to make. We celebrate diversity and encourage our children to look beyond themselves, developing an understanding of the needs and experiences of others and of their responsibilities within our local and wider community.

Our Curriculum Aims

Our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision and is designed to inspire wonder, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

We aim for every child to:

  • Develop secure knowledge and understanding across a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners.
  • Ask questions, think deeply and develop the confidence to explore ideas.
  • Discover and develop their individual gifts, talents and interests.
  • Become creative and resilient problem-solvers.
  • Develop excellent communication, reading, writing and mathematical skills.
  • Understand and appreciate the world in which they live.
  • Develop respect for themselves, others and the environment.
  • Learn from mistakes and understand that perseverance can lead to growth.
  • Develop a strong sense of responsibility and service to others.
  • Be prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges of life beyond primary school.

We want our curriculum to open children's eyes to the wonder of God's world. Through rich experiences, meaningful learning and opportunities to make connections between different subjects, we encourage children to become thoughtful, curious and responsible citizens.

Religious Education

Religious Education (RE) has a special place within our curriculum. As a Church of England school, RE enables children to explore the Christian faith in depth while also developing their knowledge and understanding of other religions and worldviews.

At Tintwistle Primary School, we use the Questful RE schemes of work to provide a rich, engaging and progressive Religious Education curriculum, enabling children to explore Christianity and other faiths and worldviews, ask thoughtful questions, deepen their understanding and reflect on how beliefs influence the lives of individuals and communities.

Through RE, children have opportunities to:

  • Develop a rich understanding of Christianity and its place within the world.
  • Explore the Bible and understand its importance to Christians.
  • Learn about a range of Christian beliefs, traditions, stories and practices.
  • Encounter and develop an understanding of other religions and worldviews.
  • Ask thoughtful and challenging questions.
  • Reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
  • Develop respect for people whose beliefs and perspectives may differ from their own.
  • Make connections between faith, values and everyday life.

We believe that RE should not simply be about learning facts. It should provide opportunities for children to wonder, question, reflect and respond, helping them to develop spiritually and ethically as well as academically.

Spirituality

Spirituality is an important part of life at Tintwistle Primary School. We recognise that spirituality is not something that can simply be taught as a lesson; rather, it is nurtured through the experiences, relationships and opportunities that make up school life.

We provide children with opportunities to stop, notice, wonder, reflect and connect. This may happen through worship, RE, time in nature, Forest School sessions, music, art, stories, prayer, silence, discussion or simply through moments when children experience  a sense of connection to something greater than themselves.
